2009 Open House a Success

The 2009 Chaires-Capitola VFD Open House was another success. Warm, sunny weather provided the perfect backdrop for learning about your local volunteer fire department. Attendance was lower than last year's Open House, but the enthusiasm of those who came more than made up for it.

Visitors were invited to learn how to use a fire extinguisher, try their hand at a real fire hose and when to call 9-1-1. Two donated vehicles were provided for demonstrating vehicle extrication techniques used to remove victims from a severe auto crash.

Be sure to keep an eye on your mailbox over the next few weeks. Our annual fund raiser mailing will be arriving soon!

Thanks to all the local businesses who donated item to our annual silent auction. Every little bit helps. 100% of money raised goes towards the operations and maintenance of the volunteer fire department. No member receives any financial compensation for their work.

Also, thanks to everyone who attended and all the department members who helped plan, setup and clean up this year's open house.
